KUCHING: A 49-year-old Myanmar national, Win Kyaw Paik, who fell off a bridge at the Sejingkat Port terminal here last night, was found floating this morning.
His body was found by a search and rescue team from Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue (Bomba) station about 10.15am, about 4km from where he fell off into Sarawak River last night.
"His remains have been handed over to the police for further action," SAR team commander Mohamad bin Meramit said in a statement.
The SAR team, consisting of personnel from Tabuan Jaya Bomba, marine police and police, was formed after a report was received on the incident, involving a crew member of a container ship.
Mohamad said initial investigations revealed that the deceased fell off a bridge while walking towards a container ship at about 10pm on Dec 15.
He added that a petrol boat, with five personnel, was deployed for a surface search this morning, covering a stretch of 500 metres upriver and downriver of Sarawak River, from the spot Win had fallen off.
Mohamad said a helicopter belonging to the state Bomba department was also used in the SAR operation.
