Hours-long Penang Bridge jam due to multiple accidents

GEORGE TOWN: A massive traffic crawl was reported on the Penang Bridge this morning following multiple accidents, stretching nearly 10km.

Some motorists were stuck in the jam for almost three hours, travelling from the mainland to the island.

According to the Plus Traffic X account, at 8.42am, an accident occurred at Km7.3, blocking the middle and left lanes.

By 10.54am, Plus warned of slow-moving traffic on the bridge's mid-span, urging drivers to remain cautious.

At 12.21pm, another accident at Km 8.4 blocked the right lane.

Motorist Khairul Barieyah posted on social media, saying that she witnessed two accidents — one involving a motorcyclist near the bridge exit and another car accident in the same area.

"The jam stretched all the way to Sungai Dua," she said, adding that it took her over two hours to travel from Seberang Jaya to the island.

Other drivers reported disruptions to their plans.

Eka Nur Fitria had to cancel a delivery due to the jam, saying, "I was on my way to deliver donuts but had to cancel because of the traffic."
