Kedah MB's aide makes peace with night market rep in viral video

ALOR STAR: An aide of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has made peace with a night market representative, who was involved in an altercation with him recently

In a TikTok video uploaded by user Phanfizs5 today, Salmy Anas Ahmad and the trader was seen shaking hands and embracing each other, as witnesses praised their decision to make amends.

Salmy confirmed that he had resolved the issue with the man last night at about 11pm at a stall here.

"The truth is, there was no real issue between me and the individual. We've known each other for over a year, and my relationship with several traders there is like family.

"If you knew how our relationship is, you'd find it quite amusing because we're like siblings. I often visit his shop, and he's always been warm in welcoming me.

"It's just that on that night, for some reason, this incident happened. When we met yesterday, we made peace and forgave each other," he said when contacted here today.

Regarding the viral video of the incident, Salmy claimed that it was blown out of proportion by a third party with an ulterior motive.

He added that the person who lodged a police report about the incident was not the one seen arguing with him or grabbing his shirt during the altercation.

"Instead, the police report was made by someone unrelated to the incident. The report wasn't lodged by the person who appeared to be scolding me in the video.

"I understand that the person who filed the police report has not withdrawn it, and because of that, I haven't withdrawn the police report I lodged yesterday either. I leave it to the authorities to investigate."

Salmy expressed his disappointment over the unfounded accusations and slanders on social media over the incident.

"Many have spread slander, but I have Allah, and I leave everything to Him. The truth is, the traders there are all good people, and whenever there's a problem, I'll visit them to listen to their concerns.

"It's as if we are one family, and as I mentioned earlier, there's no issue between us. I believe there may be other motives behind this, but I leave it all to Allah," he said.

Yesterday, Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad said police have launched an investigation into a clip allegedly featuring an aide to the menteri besar engaged in an argument with representatives of a night market here.

She has confirmed that two police reports were lodged over the viral clip.

She added that the case was being investigated under Section 352 of the Penal Code for using criminal force and Section 504 of the same code for intentionally insulting and provoking a person.

The case is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service.

Police have summoned both parties to have their statements recorded.
