80kg crocodile captured in Terengganu village

BESUT: An 80kg crocodile believed to have strayed into a rubber plantation site in Kampung Padang Buluh was captured last night.

State Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Loo Kean Seong said a team of eight people was despatched to the site after receiving a call from villagers reporting the reptile's presence about 10pm.

"The reptile is believed to have come from a nearby lake before getting lost in the rubber plantation area in Kampung Padang Buluh.

"The 2.7m-long crocodile was caught last night and released to its original habitat this afternoon," he said when contacted today.

Loo urged the public to notify Perhilitan if any wild animal is spotted in residential areas.

"Members of the public are reminded not to upload any video or image related to wildlife on social media.

"Such actions may pose a threat to the animals involved, as these could attract the attention of poachers," he said.
