SUNGAI BESAR: The Selangor Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) has confirmed the presence of two crocodiles in Sungai Bagan Terap here on Tuesday.
Its director, Wan Mohd Adib Wan Mohd Yusoh, said the department received a video of the crocodiles that had gone viral on social media and subsequently despatched officers to the location for further investigation.
"We interviewed the individual who uploaded the video. According to him, the video was recorded at 9pm on Nov 12.
"The individual had come to the Bagan Terap jetty to check on his boat. Upon arrival, he saw two crocodiles, approximately 1.5m in length, surfacing in the river. He then took out his phone and recorded the incident," he said when contacted yesterday.
Wan Mohd Adib added that interviews with several residents present during the investigation indicated they were aware that Sungai Bagan Terap is a natural habitat for crocodiles.
"Selangor Perhilitan advises residents to exercise caution when engaging in river activities and to report sightings of these wild animals to us immediately rather than taking matters into their own hands.
"Any complaints or information regarding wildlife can be submitted to Perhilitan via the hotline at 1-800-88-5151 or through the e-complaint system on the website www.wildlife.gov.my," he said.
