KUALA LUMPUR: A teenager died while receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital after experiencing difficulties in a swimming pool in Kuching.
Kuching police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said another person was rescued and is currently undergoing treatment.
"On Oct 21, at 7.59pm, the Kuching district control centre received a call from the Kuching MERS999 response centre, reporting that two individuals were in distress while swimming in a pool," he said.
"One was rescued, while the other received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) from first responders," he added in a statement today.
Mohd Farhan confirmed that both individuals were taken to Sarawak General Hospital by ambulances from the hospital and the fire department.
The death of the 19-year-old has been classified as sudden death.
Police are urging the public to come forward with any information regarding the incident by contacting investigating officer Simon Renang at 016-8547803, the Sekama police station at 08-2332522, or the nearest police station.
"The public is also advised to exercise caution and take safety precautions when engaging in water activities, especially in swimming pools," he said.
