MARAN: A 54-year-old security guard died while two other riders were injured when the motorcycles they were riding hit a buffalo at Km29 of Jalan Temerloh - Bandar Jengka here today.
Kamarulzaman Ariffin, attached to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (Hoshas), succumbed to his injuries at the scene in the 6.50am mishap.
Maran police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohamad Zamri Mohamad Zaber said investigations revealed that Kamarulzaman was riding his Honda motorcycle from Jengka 16 to his workplace when the incident occurred.
"He was riding alone when a buffalo suddenly emerged from the left side of the road, causing him to hit the animal.
"Two other motorcyclists, who were travelling along the same stretch, crashed into the carcass of the buffalo, which was lying in the middle of the road.
"Kamarulzaman was killed on the spot. The other two victims, aged 15 and 21, sustained injuries and were treated at the Pekan Awah health clinic and Hoshas respectively," he said today.
Zamri said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
