Mother and daughter among three killed in three-vehicle collision

MARAN: A woman and her child were tragically killed in a three-vehicle collision on Jalan Besar Jengka 3 this morning, which also left a student dead and four others injured.

According to Buletin Utama, the accident, which occurred around 8.15am, involved a Perodua Alza, Myvi, and Toyota Avanza. It claimed the lives of school clerk Noraini Ali, 42, her seven-year-old daughter Aufa Medina Azuan, and student, Nik Nurien Haziqah Nik Ibrahim, aged 13.

Noraini was driving the Perodua Alza, with her daughter in the front passenger seat.

They were travelling from Jengka towards Maran when their vehicle reportedly collided with a Toyota Avanza coming from the opposite direction.

Both Noraini, a clerk at SK Jengka 3, and Nik Nurien Haziqah, a student at SMK Jengka 2, who was seated in the Avanza's front passenger seat, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Aufa Medina succumbed to her injuries at Jengka 2 Health Clinic. Four others were injured, including the driver of the Myvi and an Avanza passenger.

Two others sustained more serious injuries—the MPV driver and another passenger.

District police chief Deputy Supt Mohamad Zamri Mohamad Zaber said that the Avanza had apparently veered into the path of the Alza before the Myvi, coming from Jengka, was unable to avoid the collision with the Avanza, which had ended up in the middle of the road.

"The injured victims include a 34-year-old teacher who was driving the Myvi and a 13-year-old student from SMK Jengka 2, who was sitting in the rear seat of the Avanza. They are currently being treated at Jengka Hospital," he stated.

"Another rear passenger of the Avanza, also a 13-year-old SMK Jengka 2 student, and the 28-year-old driver of the MPV are in serious condition and have been transferred to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HOSHAS) Temerloh," he added.

The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
