Fadhlina: Policy boosts Malay-English proficiency among students

KUALA LUMPUR: The Upholding the Malay Language and Strengthening Command of English (MBMMBI) policy aims to strengthen dual language skills among students, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek today.

She said the initiative aligned with educational goals where bilingual skills were key to opening up potential.

"Bahasa Melayu is the national language and the core identity of Malaysians.

"Under the National Education Policy, the government has outlined the importance of elevating Bahasa Melayu while boosting English proficiency.

"Mastery of English not only provides an edge in careers but also opens doors to knowledge and global networks."

She said this at the launching ceremony of Karnival MBMMBI at the Institute of Teacher Education, Bahasa Melayu campus.

Institute of Teacher Education rector Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad read out the text of her speech.

She said while English remained an international communication tool, Bahasa Melayu served as a cultural and national foundation.

"This carnival serves as a platform to instill a love for language, knowledge, culture and values in people that will be passed on to future generations."
