KUANTAN: Colourful kolam decoration contest, Deepavali Bazaar offering a wide array of Indian items and 'wayang pacak' or open air cinema, are among the activities lined up by Kuantan 188 Tower in conjunction with the largest Deepavali carnival in the east coast which begins today.
Kuantan 188, the country's second-tallest freestanding tower, for the first time, will host the three-day carnival this week to celebrate the upcoming Festival of Lights on Oct 31.
Kuantan 188 operations manager Mohd Hanis Fakhri Ahmad Yussri said the festival has gained a lot of attention not only among vendors and people in Pahang but also in the east coast.
"Kuantan 188 is thrilled as the carnival which will be held for the first time, has received encouraging response. We have set up some 30 booths offering a wide variety of goods, including traditional Indian clothing, home decorations, and a wide-array of food.
"Several competitions for both adults and children will be held during the carnival including a Tamil calligraphy competition, pani puri (Indian snack) eating battle, traditional fashion show and photography competition. Winners will take home cash prizes and hampers.
"On Sunday(Oct 27), Kuantan 188 will host the colourful Rang Rangelle Holi (the festival of colours) as the event will help foster a sense of togetherness among people of various backgrounds," he said today.
He said special discounts will be offered for those participating in competitions and visitors who plan to visit the tower throughout the carnival.
Hanis Fakhri said the nostalgic 'wayang pacak' held at night starting today till Sunday will screen movies featuring top South Indian heroes and heroines.
Meanwhile, Hanis Fakhri said tomorrow, an esports tournament solely catering for women namely K-188 E-Battle Madani Ladies Tournament will be held at Kuantan 188 offering prizes up to RM10,000.
"Since there are a lot of female aspiring gamers, we are providing a platform through a female-only competition for them to display their gaming skills which will be limited to 32 teams," he said.
