End of infamous 'blue canopies' for Port Dickson's beaches

PORT DICKSON: Authorities have ordered the infamous 'blue canopy' rental tents at Pantai Teluk Kemang to cease their operations effective Nov 18.

A notice issued by the Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) stated that all tents and associated equipment must be cleared from the site.

The letter, signed by MPPD president Hasnor Abd Hamid, cited several reasons for the decision, including the rental of tents tarnishing the reputation of Port Dickson as a beach resort.

"This is further exacerbated by some vendors' actions in driving the public away from using the public beach," read the notice.

The order to cease tent rentals starting Nov 18 also applies to Pantai Tanjung Biru, and Pantai Cermin.

Additionally, the ban includes the prohibition of setting up any replacement businesses. Failure to comply will result in action under Section 46 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133).

The MPPD said it would remove and dispose of the obstacles without further notice if the orders are not complied with.

"Operators are also required to clean up and remove all equipment such as tents, tables, chairs, umbrellas, storage structures, or any other related items.

"The council will dispose of any remaining equipment left on the beach after inspections are carried out," read the notice.

Some vendors have continued to defy the terms and conditions set by MPPD following a notice dated June 18, 2020.

Previously, it was reported that the Negri Sembilan state government would discuss with tent operators around Pantai Teluk Kemang following concerns that the line of rental tents in the area was obstructing the public's view.
