Woman loses more than RM300k of company's money in 'smash and grab' incident

SIBU: A woman lost RM301,231 belonging to her company when a man smashed her car windscreen and stole the cash at a car park in Jalan Kampung Nyabor here yesterday.

Sibu police chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkipli Suhaili said before the incident, the 27-year-old victim, an employee of the company, had withdrawn the cash from a bank.

She lodged a police report at 11.10am yesterday.

"Initial investigations showthat the robbers had followed the woman after she withdrew the money from the bank. She was carrying a bag full of cash.

"When the victim parked her vehicle in the car park, one of the two suspects broke the driver's side car window and stole the bag, which was on the seat next to her," he said in a statement today.

He said after snatching the bag, the suspect ran to his accomplice, who was waiting on a motorcycle.

Zulkipli said efforts to track down the suspects were being made based on dashboard camera footage from the victim's vehicle.

The case is being investigated under Sections 379 and 427 of the Penal Code for theft and mischief.

He said information can be channeled to the nearest police station or the investigating officer, Inspector Muhd Syahmi Zahar at 011-23148321.
