KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with the management of the Malaysia Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra) and several Members of Parliament representing the Indian community to discuss strategies for further empowering this demographic.
In a statement on Facebook today, Anwar affirmed the government's commitment to enhancing initiatives aimed at empowering the Indian community.
"I affirm the government's commitment to intensifying initiatives to empower the Indian community in this country, particularly through Mitra. This includes allocations that I announced in the 2025 Budget to implement various programs, including financing for Indian community businesses," he said.
Anwar said he had instructed the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (Kuskop) to coordinate and expand related programs to ensure these allocations achieve their intended goals.
This effort will be overseen by its deputy minister Datuk Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan.
"I hope the government's determination, along with the support of all parties, especially from the leadership of the Indian community, will continue to strengthen Mitra and realise the aspiration to uplift the Indian community in this country," he added.
