KOTA BARU: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will take stern action against entrepreneurs who misuse their business premises.
Its chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said Mara had already taken action on entrepreneurs who rented premises for other purposes.
"We have taken several actions against Mara entrepreneurs who have rented premises but did not operate a business.
'Instead, they rented the outlets for other purposes such as for stores and other purposes.
"I want to stress here that l will not hesitate to take action against Mara entrepreneurs who have no interest to do business and just want to use Mara for their own gain," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after the closing of International Conference on Teacher Education 2024 here today.
Asyraf said several actions had already been taken against entrepreneurs during his 'surprise checks' at Mara buildings recently.
He then said Mara has 6,666 business premises throughout the country and some are over 50 years old.
"I would like to remind all Mara entrepreneurs not to take advantage of the low rental rates given by Mara because it can be considered as taking away the rights of other people.
"You must be serious about expanding your business. If not, we can offer the business premise to others, " he said.
