KEMAMAN: Police raided a café in Kuala Kemaman, instructing organisers of the "Malam Perayaan Patah Hati" concert, attended by around 1,500 people, to stop the event last night.
District police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said a police team was dispatched to the scene following public complaints of traffic congestion and loud music in the area around 9.20pm.
"Checks showed the event which did not have the required permit was attended by some 1,500 people.
"Police ordered the event to stop and instructed attendees to disperse," he said.
He added that that preliminary investigation showed the organisers did not have any permits from the authorities to organise the event.
"The Kemaman Municipal Council had even posted a notice prohibiting gatherings.
"However, the event proceeded," he said.
Hanyan said police have launched an investigation into the case and are expected to summon the organisers to record their statements.
He also said the case is being investigated under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for failing to notify the police about the event, and Section 6(1) of the Entertainment and Entertainment Venues Enactment 2002 for operating without an entertainment licence.
