KOTA BARU: The fire at a recycling collection site along Jalan Padang Tembak in the Pengkalan Chepa Industrial Area has been successfully contained and is expected to be fully extinguished today.
Senior Fire Superintendent Khairul Ariffin Che Ramli, head of Zone 1 of the Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), said the firefighting operation, now in its fifth day, involved a fire engine with two water jets, and two excavators provided by the recycling company's owner.
"The operation continued until 9am today to put out the rest of the fire, and it is expected to be completed today," he said when contacted.
Meanwhile, the deputy director of the Kelantan Department of Environment (DOE) Mohamad Zamzani Ibrahim, said they would await a report from JBPM on the incident for further action.
He added that any further action, including an investigation into possible arson, would only be taken based on the report.
On Oct 27, a fire broke out at the recyclables collection site, with 80 per cent of the area razed by 6pm. Forty firemen were deployed to fight the blaze, supported by five fire engines and four water tankers. – Bernama
