KULAI: The Kulai Fast Lane (KFL) initiative, introduced by the Kulai Municipal Council, has attracted RM40 billion in investments since its launch in 2022.
KFL is introduced to speed up the process of obtaining physical development applications in the district by expediting approval process for construction permits, such as Certificate of Completion and Compliance and operating licenses for foreign investors by reducing bureaucratic red tape.
The programme has been successful in attracting investors to Kulai, with investments increasing by 171 per cent and has created 7,000 jobs.
State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the initiative through the KFL programme was the district's best achievement to date.
"We have received applications for a new industrial site covering 161.874 hectares recently, acquired by Eco World Development Group Bhd," he told a press conference after the KFL Pemacu Negara (national drive) seminar held at the Impiana Hotel Senai, here, today (Nov 4).
Also in attendance were the council president Mohd Fahmi Salam, Southern Region Productivity Corporation (MPC) director Mohd Azwan Mohd Salleh, and UTM deputy vice-chancellor Prof Dr Rosli Md Illias.
He also outlined developments in Sedenak Industrial Area, where Step 1, spanning 2,938 hectares, is nearly fully occupied.
In Step 2, currently 60 per cent acquired by investors, is under development.
Jafni, who is also the Bukit Permai assemblyman, said Kulai has another 2,023 hectares earmarked for future mixed developments, including in Sedenak.
Additionally, residential projects are advancing, with Scientex purchasing 161.874 hectares for commercial and mixed-use development, while another developer has acquired 404.686 hectares in Kota Tinggi for similar purposes.
Meanwhile Fahmi said the KFL seminar was important for strengthening partnerships.
The council had recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MPC, UTM and Princeton Digital Group.
This partnership is expected to benefit the wider Johor community, beyond Kulai residents.
By next year, KFL is expanded to attract more projects such as specialist hospitals and shopping complexes.
