JOHOR BARU: The Johor government will meet taxi operators to obtain their feedback on Putrajaya's decision to ban natural gas vehicles (NGVs) in phases from July 1.
State Public Works, Transport, and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said engagements with taxi operators and associations will provide a clearer picture of the number of drivers affected by the ban and their concerns.
"We also will see if incentives offered by the federal government are sufficient, and if it's not, the state government is prepared to offer additional assistance," he told a press conference.
Yesterday, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the phased ban on NGVs due to public safety reasons.
From July 1, NGVs will no longer be allowed on the road or be registered, while the supply of NGVs will be phased out from Oct 1.
Earlier, Fazli launched a new Causeway Link bus route between Country Garden Danga Bay and JB Sentral.
The service, which can serve 3,000 commuters a day, is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, offering Country Garden residents a "park and ride" option with fares set at just RM1.50 per trip.
