KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will summon key figures who were part of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) asset recovery task force to provide clarification on the efforts to recover the sovereign fund's assets
PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin today said that to complete the proceedings, PAC would summon:
Investment Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, who was finance minister from 2021 to 2022;
Lim Guan Eng, who was finance minister from 2018 to 2020; and,
Datuk Asri Hamidon, who was Treasury secretary-general from 2020 to 2023; and,
Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership law firm.
"The proceedings are expected to take place in the third week of this month," she said at the Parliament building.
During the proceedings on the commitment to return 1MDB assets and 1MDB debt financing guarantees, Mas Ermieyati said PAC heard testimonies and explanations from Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and 1MDB task force head Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
She said the proceedings on the commitment to return 1MDB assets and 1MDB debt financing guarantees, and proceedings on the proceedings on the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) accounts receivable management, were conducted on Nov 4 and 5.
Both proceedings were based on issues raised in the Auditor General's Report Series 3 2024: Federal Government Financial Statements for 2023, which was presented at Dewan Rakyat on Oct 14.
"During the proceedings regarding the Inland Revenue Board Accounts Receivable Management, PAC heard testimonies and explanations from Johan and IRB chief executive officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin.
"These proceedings will resume in the third week of this month."
She said PAC also tabled the follow-up report on the Ministry of Finance (Incorporated) and the Rural and Regional Development Ministry concerning the recommendations in the PAC report on Felcra Bhd.
Meanwhile, Mas Ermieyati said PAC would present the report on the National Professors Council, which is under the Prime Minister's Department, tomorrow.
The auditor general, in its audit of the council from 2019 to 2023m found that funds were misused to benefit two companies in which two trustees have a stake.
The report also found that two members of the board of trustees failed to declare share ownership in two companies in line with the Companies Act.
