DBKL issues stop work order for J Satine condo in KL [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A stop work order has been issued for the J Satine condominium under construction in Wangsa Maju following reports of an explosion on the site caused by structural issues.

In a statement, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said it inspected the site and found cracks along the shear walls, pillars, and floors in units above the eighth floor of Block C.

It said it has also instructed the developer to carry out maintenance on the site to ensure it is clean and safe.

The developer is also required, to appoint an independent engineer to inspect the structural integrity of the entire development.

It is also required to present a report on the matter and carry out remedial works based on the independent engineer's recommendations.

The stop work order will be enforced until the developer complies with all of DBKL's instructions.

It said the source of the explosion and structural issues have yet to be identified.

"DBKL views the incident seriously and advises the public against speculating and making unfounded statements on the incident on social media."

Yesterday, developer Gandingan Jakel responded to viral videos and images purportedly showing cracks in the building of a condominium it is developing.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the company acknowledged the viral videos and images and said all safety protocols were being followed.

It added that the development has been carefully planned and the construction process implemented is in line with the regulations and ethics practised by the relevant professional bodies.

It also said it was working with expert advisors and a task force to obtain a "true picture" of the project's status and show the issue has been "misrepresented".
