KUALA LUMPUR: TCS Group Holdings Berhad said it is cooperating with the relevant authorities investigating the structural cracks at the J. Satine mixed development project in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur.
In a statement, Datuk Ir Tee Chai Seng, managing director of TCS, said the group was concerned and is working closely with the developer and consultants to identify the root cause. The main contractor for the project is TCS' wholly-owned subsidiary, TCS Construction Sdn Bhd (TCSCSB).
"Thankfully, there were no casualties. We want to reiterate that health and safety have always been paramount in our projects.
"We want to assure all stakeholders that we have adhered strictly to all health and safety standards and protocols throughout the construction process.
"We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved in our projects, and to delivering projects that meet the highest standards of quality and integrity," Tee added.
He also urged the public to refrain from sharing unauthorised videos or images of the incident, and from speculating.
A stop-work order has been issued for the J. Satine condo project following reports of an explosion at the site. The explosion reportedly caused damage to the structure.
In a statement last week, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) confirmed that an inspection revealed cracks along the shear walls, pillars, and floors in units above the eighth floor of Block C.
DBKL directed the developer, Gandingan Jakel, to conduct maintenance checks to ensure the site's safety.
Additionally, the developer was instructed to appoint an independent engineer to assess the structural integrity of the entire development, present a detailed report, and carry out remedial measures based on the engineer's recommendations.
The stop-work order will remain in effect until the developer fulfils all directives from DBKL.
The source of the explosion and the related structural issues have not yet been determined.
Earlier, Gandingan Jakel responded to viral videos and images allegedly showing cracks in the structure of the condominium.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the company acknowledged the incident and assured the public that all safety protocols were being followed.
The developer added that the development had been carefully planned and the construction process was in line with the regulations and ethics mandated by the relevant professional bodies.
It also said it was working with expert advisors and a task force to obtain a "true picture" of the project's status and show that the issue had been "misrepresented."
