KUALA LUMPUR: My50 monthly pass users will no longer be required to use their MyKad next year, as alternative payment options will be introduced.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the new payment methods, which are being planned by stakeholders, include the use of the Touch 'n Go card.
He said the transition also aims to revolutionise the digital system of the country's public transport.
"Once the system integration process is complete, users will be able to use the Touch 'n Go card or access via smartphone, using a QR code. These are the details we are working on. This change is being made as users feel that utilising the MyKad is inconvenient when it comes to public transport under the My50 initiative.
"They don't like using their MyKad each time for scanning, fearing it might be misplaced," he said after the launch of the MyTourist Pass here, today.
The My50 pass offers unlimited travel for RM50 per month for use on rail and bus services operated by Prasana.
On average, there are 220,000 monthly My50 users, compared with only 98,000 in 2019.
"In just five years, the number of My50 pass users has doubled, showing that this initiative has attracted more people to use public transport," Loke said.
