KUANTAN: Continuous rainfall since Sunday night has caused the water levels of four rivers in Pahang, including two in Lipis, to surpass danger levels.
According to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) website, Sungai Tanum at Chegar Perah and Sungai Kechau at Kampung Dusun in Lipis recorded water levels of 98.74m and 83.17m, respectively, exceeding their danger levels of 98m and 82.50m.
Sungai Luit at Kampung Subuh in Maran is also showing a rising trend, with its water level at 29.22m, 2.22m above the danger mark.
Similarly, Sungai Belat at Sri Damai in Kuantan recorded a water level of 5.13m, surpassing the danger level of 5m.
The National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has issued flood warnings for nine low-lying areas within a 5km radius of Sungai Belat, including Kampung Batu 5 Jalan Gambang, Kampung Belukar, Kampung Gudang Rasau, Kampung Kurnia, Kampung Semangat, Kampung Telok Mahang, Sungai Isap, Taman Pandan Aman, and Kampung Sri Damai.
Additionally, four rivers have surpassed their warning levels: Sungai Tembeling at Kuala Tahan and Kampung Merting in Jerantut, Sungai Dong at Kampung Peruas in Raub, and Sungai Belat near the Gambang Bridge.
Fourteen other rivers, including Sungai Jelai at Kuala Medang in Lipis, Sungai Pahang at Kuala Krau in Temerloh, and Sungai Rimau at Sungai Lembing, have recorded water levels above the cautionary level.
Meanwhile, the number of flood victims in Maran, the first district in Pahang to be hit by the second wave of flooding, continues to rise.
As of today, 118 people from 32 families are now housed in four relief centers, up from 69 individuals at 8am.
