Hajiji: Use drone technology to monitor development projects

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) has been urged to enhance its promotion of drone technology.

State Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the technology was a means to boost productivity and monitor development projects more effectively.

"This is because drone technology has assisted SEDIA in expediting land planning and environmental monitoring processes in line with the state's development objectives.

"Furthermore, SEDIA plays a crucial role in strengthening Sabah's economy through the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) 2.0 Action Plan.

"Through this initiative, SEDIA supports investments in the agriculture, infrastructure and green technology sectors, aligning with Sabah's vision for sustainable development and global competitiveness," Hajiji said at the Sabah Drone Open Day held at the Sabah International Convention Centre here.

His speech was delivered by Sabah Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

Hajiji stressed the state government's intention to further promote drone technology, which is already being utilised across various economic sectors. These include agriculture, tourism, construction, logistics and security.

"It has also assisted in resolving the worker shortage issue in the agriculture sector. Therefore, I call for greater cooperation between the government, industry, researchers and the community to adopt drone technology to spur Sabah's economy," said Hajiji, who also serves as chairman of SEDIA.
