TUMPAT: Pulau Suri, a popular floating market in the state, has been temporarily closed to visitors as a precaution for the coming monsoon season.
Pulau Suri Floating Market chairman Rosdi Ghani said the market has been closed since Saturday, and all 40 traders operating there had been informed.
"We held a meeting a few days before the closure to discuss the situation after noticing signs of the monsoon season approaching, such as strong winds and high waves," he said.
"This measure is also for the safety of visitors."
The closure, Rosdi said, is an annual precaution taken during monsoon seasons and will last until February next year.
Set up in 2016, the floating market operates every Friday and Saturday from 8am to 5pm, drawing both locals and tourists with its variety of traditional Kelantan foods and delicacies.
