KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 11.1 million Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) unit holders have been recorded, holding 173.8 billion investment units up to Oct 23.
Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said 731,872 unit holders have invested in Amanah Saham Malaysia (ASM), with a total of 29.4 billion units subscribed.
"Investors can invest a maximum of 300,000 units in ASB, while the maximum investment amount for ASM is subject to the fund size allocation," she said in the Dewan Rakyat today in response to a question from R. Yuneswaran (PH-Segamat), who asked for the number of Malaysians participating in investments in ASB and ASM.
Responding to a supplementary question from Salamiah Mohd Nor (PN-Temerloh) on whether dividends from ASB and ASM are taxed, Lim said no tax is imposed on dividends from these two investment schemes.
She added that the interest or dividend rate received by ASB and ASM unit holders is also higher than conventional banks.
"From 2021 to last year, the ASB scheme generated income returns within a range of 4.6 to 5.25 per cent, including bonuses.
"For the ASM scheme, the income range over the same period was between four and 4.5 per cent," she said.
