PETALING JAYA: The police plan to use a high-end drone to address key issues in Petaling Jaya, such as traffic congestion, crime prevention, and search-and-rescue efforts.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Jaafar said the drone, donated by QNET, will play a crucial role in safety monitoring and disaster management.
It will enable real-time control by safety personnel, particularly in high-risk areas that are difficult to access due to traffic congestion, natural disasters, and land erosion.
Speaking at the drone handover ceremony at the Qi Tower in Petaling Jaya today, Shahrulnizam said the police would maximise the use of the donated drone and that training had already been conducted with relevant QI Group parties. QI Group is the parent company of QNET.
QI Group's director of business development, Krishna Kumar, said the advanced drone, valued at over RM60,000, is equipped with state-of-the-art software, including high-resolution surveillance capabilities. These features will enhance crime prevention by enabling faster response times and allowing the drone to reach challenging areas with ease.
"The drone can access locations that are difficult or unsafe for personnel, such as remote, high-risk, or congested areas. It also improves public safety with its night-vision capabilities and environmental monitoring sensors, ensuring 24/7 operational readiness. It can also assist in rescuing victims from fires in buildings, as it can reach up to 36 floors," he added.
"By providing advanced tools like this drone, we hope to contribute to a more secure and prosperous society. It's crucial for companies like QNET and other private entities to collaborate with government bodies," he said.
