Sabah health dept to improve working environment for staff

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Health Department (JKNS) will continue to oversee and ensure an ideal working environment for its staff.

State Assistant Community Development and People's Welfare Minister, Datuk Flovia Ng, was replying to Alias Sani (Warisan-Sekong)'s question on measures taken by the Sabah government to address a viral case involving a medical doctor at Lahad Datu Hospital.

The family members have claimed that the late doctor had depression related to her work.

"To prevent and address such issues in the future, JKNS will continue to monitor working conditions in hospitals and health facilities across the state. The department will identify issues related to work stress and bullying among healthcare workers. Efforts to improve work stress management and enhance support for staff mental well-being will also be strengthened," she said.

Ng also said that JKNS had conducted an internal investigation into the incident on Sept 2, 2024. The findings of this investigation have been submitted to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM).

The Health Ministry subsequently established an Independent Special Task Force on Oct 10, 2024, chaired by former Public Services director-general, Tan Sri Borhan Dollah, to investigate the matter.

She added that the task force has been given three months to present its findings.
