Kedah boosts promotion, collaboration to attract southern Thai travellers

SUNGAI PETANI: Kedah will step up promotion and collaboration to draw travellers from neighbouring country Thailand for Visit Kedah 2025 (VK2025) campaign.

State Tourism, Culture, Arts and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin said Kedah Tourism had been tasked to link up local industry players with their counterparts in Thailand.

"Thailand, especially the southern provinces, share many similarities with Kedah in terms of history, culture and food.

"However, previously there was not much promotion for Kedah tourism in southern Thailand, but now we are embarking on an aggressive campaign under Visit Kedah 2025.

"For a start, we will focus on engaging tourism players in Hatyai up to Satun to promote Kedah tourism packages," he told reporters after witnessing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UG Property, the operator of Park Avenue Hotel and Hatyai Bilingual Academy by Sangrateepwittaya Foundation School yesterday evening.

The MoU was signed by Park Avenue Hotel general manager Azmi Rahman and Hatyai Bilingual Academy representative Rosee Baikadem.

Present were Kedah Tourism general managers Azlizam Jaafar Sidik and Roslan Othman.

Under the initiative, a group of travel agencies, influencers and representatives from Thai government agencies have participated in a two-day familiarisation trip to visit Siamese community settlements and Islamic tourism products in Kedah.

"They visited Siamese temples, Ulu Legong hot spring and followed by a visit to Islamic tourism attraction in Kedah.

"They have expressed their commitment to work closely with us to promote our tourism products in Thailand," he said.
