KUALA LUMPUR: There is no room for complacency among civil servants under the new Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Speaking at the National Convention on Public Service Reform's closing ceremony today, Shamsul Azri said the new system established by the government must be accompanied by innovation, change and reform within the civil service.
He said productivity among civil servants must be improved alongside the progressive salary system under SSPA.
"A new era for the civil service is being navigated and strengthened through the introduction of SSPA, which must be accompanied by improved work quality, commitment and dedication from civil servants," he said.
"SSPA focuses on the welfare and wellbeing of civil servants and aims to boost their motivation to enhance service delivery efficiency.
"There is no room for civil servants who are lazy, negligent or careless, and there is no longer any excuse for a lack of innovation, change and renewal."
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had previously announced that SSPA will take effect from Dec 1.
Anwar, who is also finance minister, said SSPA demonstrated the government's appreciation of civil servants and their sacrifices.
He also announced a 15 per cent salary adjustment for officers in the executive group and the management and professional group, and a seven per cent raise for the top management group.
The adjustments will be implemented in two phases: the first beginning on Dec 1, 2024, and the second on Jan 1, 2026.
