KUALA LUMPUR: Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has been proposed by the party's youth wing as the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general.
Pas youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said the suggestion reflects Takiyuddin's seniority and experience, noting his previous role as PN deputy secretary-general.
"With the utmost respect to Tan Sri (Muhyiddin Yassin), the Perikatan Nasional chairman, we propose that Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan be appointed as PN's new secretary-general.
"This follows Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin's new mandate as Bersatu's deputy president," Afnan said in a Facebook post.
Hamzah was announced as the third Bersatu deputy president, replacing former Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who had served as the party secretary-general since March 2020.
He is currently the opposition leader in the Dewan Rakyat, while Takiyuddin serves as the PN chief whip.
The proposal came after internal disputes within the PN became evident when Faizal proposed Muhyiddin as the PN's sole candidate for the prime minister's post for the upcoming general election.
However, Pas Spiritual Leader Hashim Jasin rejected the proposal. He insisted that Pas was more qualified to lead PN due to its larger number of members of parliament—43 compared to Bersatu's 25.
