KOTA BARU: Continuous heavy rains since yesterday evening have resulted in a total of 1,826 flood victims being evacuated this morning.
The victims from 562 families, are now taking shelter at 39 flood relief centres in eight districts.
The affected districts are Pasir Puteh with 486 victims, Jeli (357), Pasir Mas (301), Kuala Krai (243), Bachok (218), Tanah Merah (143l, Kota Baru (59) and Machang (19).
The non-stop rain also resulted in three rivers in Kelantan recorded above danger levels, another above warning marks and another two above their alert levels.
The three rivers that recorded above their danger marks were the Kelantan river in Jeli which measured at 29.55m; the Machang river (19.56m) and the Golok river in Rantau Panjang (10.24m).
The measurements which were taken at 7.45am also showed that Kelantan river in Kuala Krai measured above its warning level. The river was recorded at 22.81m.
Two rivers recorded above their alert levels were the Kemasin river in Bachok (9.68m) and the Semerak river in Pasir Puteh (3.29m).
The overall flood situation in Kelantan is getting worse with more victims expected to be evacuated this morning.
Meanwhile, the state Drainage and Irrigation Department has issued flood warnings to Kelantan with more than 30 villages flooded.
The department, in a statement issued midnight last night, said the affected villages would be hit by the floods beginning 6am today until 6am on Nov 29.
It stated the affected villages are located about 5km from the Semerak river including Kampung Kulim, Kampung Raja and Kampung Nering.
