Kelantan state assembly postponed as many assemblymen absent due to floods

KOTA BARU: The ongoing Kelantan state assembly sitting, which entered its fifth day today, has been postponed as the majority of its 45 assemblymen were unable to attend the meeting due to floods.

The six-day sitting, which began last Thursday, was originally set to conclude tomorrow.

State Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said today's session ended in the afternoon due to the absence of many assemblymen.

As a result, Mohd Amar announced that the final two days of the sitting would be deferred to next year.

"After noticing that many assemblymen were absent due to the floods, I decided to postpone the session," he said.

"The six-day sitting will resume next year, with the date to be announced later."

The Panchor assemblyman said this after visiting flood victims at SK Tapang here today.

"The flood situation in the state is worsening, and like me, these assemblymen need to be in their areas.

"They need to monitor their respective constituencies and assist their people," he added.

Flooding in Kelantan continues to worsen today, with nine of its 10 districts affected due to heavy downpour.
