KOTA BARU: People are staying up late at night to visit Sungai Kelantan at Tambatan Diraja to monitor the river's condition in Kota Baru.
A survey conducted late last night revealed that more than 50 residents were at the site to observe the river, with some staying until the early hours of the morning as water levels continued to rise.
As of 7am today, the water level at Sungai Kelantan in Tambatan Diraja has exceeded the alert level, reaching 3.44 metres.
Hussin Abdullah, 37, a resident of Kampung Tikat, said he had spent two consecutive nights staying awake and visiting the area to monitor the river's water level.
"The purpose of coming here is to ensure my family stays alert. The situation still seems manageable for now, although the water level continues to rise. If the river level exceeds the danger level, it will overflow into nearby areas. Last night, I was here until 2 a.m. because I could not sleep soundly under these circumstances," he said.
Yesterday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a danger-level continuous heavy rain warning for the entire states of Kelantan and Terengganu, as well as the Kuantan and Jerantut districts in Pahang, expected to last until tomorrow.
