RANTAU PANJANG: A total of 13 General Operations Force (GOF) posts have been inundated by floodwaters after the Golok River overflowed its banks yesterday, amid the worsening flood situation in Kelantan, with five stations closed, an officer said.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the 13 stations were located in Rantau Panjang and Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat.
"As of 8am this morning, 13 GOF posts located along the Kelantan/Thai border have been affected by the flood," he said.
"The posts have been inundated by floodwaters ranging from 2m to 5m in stages, between yesterday evening and late last night."
The GOF is a branch of the Royal Malaysian Police, tasked with maintaining public order, managing border security, and carrying out various law enforcement duties.
"Five of the 13 posts have been closed for the safety of the GOF personnel," Ros Azhan said.
He added that the affected personnel had been relocated to safer locations, and "despite the challenges, they continue to carry out their duties as usual."
"Apart from conducting Ops Taring Wawasan, they are also helping other rescue agencies in rescuing flood victims," Ros Azhan said.
For the stations still in operation, he said his officers would continue to monitor the water levels of the flood regularly.
