KOTA BARU: Nearly 600 General Operations Force (GOF) officers and personnel are currently engaged in the ongoing flood rescue operations in Kelantan.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said that the personnel, from the Eighth and Ninth Battalions, were involved in "Op Monsoon Timur Laut", covering the Tumpat and Pasir Mas areas.
Of the total personnel, 246 will be directly involved in on-the-ground operations, while the rest will remain on standby at their tactical bases.
"These personnel will assist in various rescue operations, including transporting flood victims from relief centres to their homes and delivering food supplies to the centres. They will also support other agencies in their efforts," he said.
Nik Ros Azhan also said that 30 houses belonging to GOF personnel were affected by the first round of flooding.
"Twenty homes were from the Eighth Battalion, and 10 from the Ninth Battalion. However, this situation will not deter our personnel from continuing their work," he said.
