ARAU: Flash floods have forced eight schools in Arau and Padang Besar to end classes earlier than usual today following continuous rain, an official said.
Perlis State Education Director Rose Aza Che Arifin said six of the affected schools are in Arau, while two others are in Padang Besar.
"We have received an early dismissal request from SMK Dato Sheikh Ahmad, SMK Syed Hussein, SK Arau, SK Tengku Budriah, SJKC Hwa Aik and SMK Agama Al Madrasah Al Alawiyah Ad Diniah which have reported flash flooding caused by continuous rainfall since early this morning," she told the New Straits Times.
"We have also received requests from SK Guar Nangka in Arau and SK Titi Tinggi in Padang Besar, which are being used as Temporary Flood Relief Centres (PPS)."
All students from the affected schools would continue their lessons via the Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) method starting tomorrow until further notice.

Checks revealed that several areas, including Jalan Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin from Pekan Lama Arau to the Batas Liku traffic light junction, were submerged, with water reaching ankle-deep, causing traffic congestion.
