PUTRAJAYA: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia candidates affected by floods are being moved to hostels or alternative examination centres.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the decision had taken into account advice from the authorities, particularly the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), for SPM candidates in flood-stricken areas.
"This is to ensure they can sit for the SPM examination starting tomorrow, either at their respective schools, in hostels provided by the Education Ministry, or at alternative examination centres," she said during a press conference today.
She said a total of 5,377 SPM candidates were being evacuated in Kelantan, Kedah, and Terengganu.
She said so far, Kelantan has recorded the highest number of affected candidates, with 3,111 students, while the remaining 1,734 candidates are in Terengganu and 532 in Kedah.
Malay language oral examination will proceed as scheduled, starting tomorrow until Dec 5.
She said relocation efforts were being carried out.
"The process of transferring them is underway to ensure they can stay in conducive hostels and have a well-organised revision environment with the necessary support," she said.
The floods in several states have worsened, with Pahang becoming the latest to be affected by the disaster.
The number of flood evacuees housed in temporary relief centres (PPS) nationwide has risen to 152,377 this morning, up from 146,611 last night.
