ALOR STAR: A total of 227 victims from 72 families sheltering at the temporary flood relief centre (PPS) in SK Titi Gajah had to be relocated to another PPS after floodwaters rose in the area earlier today.
Kedah Civil Defence Force (CDM) deputy director Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said all victims were relocated to the SK Taman Rakyat PPS beginning 6pm.
He said the rising floodwaters in SK Titi Gajah's compound forced the immediate relocation of all evacuees, with assistance from the police and Fire and Rescue Department.
"The relocation operation was carried out in stages and the PPS at SK Titi Gajah will be closed.
"The flood situation in the Kota Setar district is quite concerning, as Sungai Anak Bukit near Taman Aman and the TAR Bridge have overflowed onto the roads.
"As a result, the number of flood victims in the district has increased, and new PPS centres have been opened to accommodate those affected by the floods.
"I advise all residents whose homes are flooded and have yet to relocate to do so immediately or contact the rescue teams for assistance," he said when inspecting flood situation earlier today.
Meanwhile, checks in Pantai Johor, Jalan Gunung Keriang and Anak Bukit showed that water levels have risen between 0.5 and 1.3m above the road, forcing several roads to be closed to light vehicles.
According to the Public Infobanjir website as of 7pm, five rivers across three districts — two in Kota Setar, two in Kubang Pasu, and one in Padang Terap — have surpassed the danger level.
