BALIK PULAU: Three foreigners and a local woman have been remanded for seven days over a human trafficking case involving the sexual exploitation of a Nigerian woman.
According to Buletin TV3, the remand order for the four suspects, aged between 24 and 35, including two men and two women, was issued by Balik Pulau Court senior assistant registrar S. Janice Brenda.
The remand, which begins today until Dec 7, was granted to enable police to investigate the case under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
It is understood that the suspects, who are believed to be two couples, were arrested during a raid at a condominium in Bayan Lepas yesterday.
The arrests followed a report lodged by the victim, a 25-year-old woman, who claimed she was exploited as a sex worker. The woman reportedly came to Malaysia after one of the suspects offered her a job as a cleaner.
However, upon arrival, she was allegedly forced into prostitution, with foreign clients paying hundreds of ringgit per session.
Meanwhile, Southwest police chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, confirmed the arrests when contacted and said a press conference on the case will be held tomorrow.
