SUBANG JAYA: Media Prima Audio (MPA) has launched its Misi Bantuan Banjir 2024 (Fllod Aid Mission) #SuaraBantuan, a humanitarian initiative to help alleviate the suffering of flood victims.
The initiative is aimed at flood-stricken states such as Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah, as well as other areas in the country.
The initiative has the support of Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd which supplied basic needs such as foodstuff valued at RM50,000 and has arranged for collection points.
It is also received the support of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim) in terms of logistics management.
MPA chief executive officer Nazrin Noran said the mission would focus on efforts to collect and deliver aid to affected communities.
He said it began yesterday and would carry on till Dec 15, with collection points at for locations — Mydin Mall USJ, Subang Jaya; Mydin Seksyen 18, Shah Alam; Mydin Semenyih; and, the Mapim Central Warehouse in Sepang.
Nazri said the public can provide donations at the three Mydin locations between 9am and 9pm, while the Mapim warehouse would accept donations from 9am-5pm.
"When disasters occur, we (in the radio industry) receive many calls as many are affected... the first thing we do is put forward emergency numbers, because that is the duty of the media.
"As members of the media, we welcome anyone to collaborate, regardless of where they are from.
"Alhamdulillah, Mydin has helped, and today, we are able to launch this mission," he told reporters after receiving a mock cheque during the launch event at Mydin USJ.
The donation was handed over by Mydin managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin. Present was Mapim chief secretary Faris Hussain.
Meanwhile, Ameer said he was grateful that MPA was willing to collaborate with Mydin and that his company could contribute to alleviate the suffering of flood victims.
He said cooperation was important because the media played an important role in ensuring the success of the mission for victims.
"We can't do it alone and need the media so that people know where to donate because many want to contribute but are afraid of being scammed.
"We want to ensure public trust... the value is not important, the intention is what matters most.
"Of course, the government is working to help, but we also need to take responsibility and require the support of all parties," he said.
