NGOs urged to coordinate with Nadma for food aid delivery

TUMPAT: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) wishing to donate food aid to flood victims are advised to coordinate with the Welfare Department and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to ensure that distribution is more organised.

Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the move is also aimed at preventing aid from being given to the same flood victims repeatedly.

"It was not wrong for certain individuals to accept the donations given by the NGOs and distribute them to other flood victims.

"But for me, better for this NGOs to use proper channel in distributing the aid such as via Nadma or Welfare Department.

"By doing this, the aid distribution will be given fairly to all flood victims," she said after visiting flood victims at SK Sri Tumpat here today (Dec 5).

On the second wave of flood, she said the ministry was ready to face any eventuality of the second round of the disaster to hit the country.

In the first wave of flood, she said the more than 1,000 welfare staffs have been deployed to the states affected by flood and they were assisted by volunteers.

"For the coming wave, we will ensure our strength is sufficient as well as the food suppplies for flood victims.

"We might consider setting up more depots (for food and other essentials) in the states worst hit by the flood," she said.
