'Imaginur' crowned best film at 33rd Malaysian film festival

KUALA LUMPUR: 'Imaginur', directed by Nik Amir Mustapha, made history at the 33rd Malaysian Film Festival (FFM33) by clinching the prestigious Best Film award at the Auditorium Seri Angkasa, Angkasapuri here tonight.

Produced by Lumatic Films Sdn Bhd, 'Imaginur' also excelled in six other categories: Best Director, Best Actor (Beto Kusyairy), Best Original Story, Best Editing (Johan Arif Mazlan), Best Theme Song ('Hasrat' by Amir Jahari), and Best Art Direction (Rabbani Sujak).

The win secured the producer the grand Creative Content Fund (DKK) prize worth RM500,000, presented by the Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.

Also in attendance were the Chairman of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) Datuk Kamil Othman, and Finas chief executive officer Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib.

Competition remained fierce, with 'Abang Adik' securing five awards: Best Makeup (Ng Keok Cheng, Yap Pui Yin, and Kua Goh Yoke Eng), Best Costume Design (Elaine Ng), Most Promising Director (Jin Ong), Best Screenplay (Jin Ong), and Best Supporting Actor (Jack Tan).

In the Best Actress category, Susan Lankester won for her role in 'Rain Tow', while Elizabeth Tan took home Best Supporting Actress for 'Sheriff'.

The Special Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred upon Zakaria Ahmad, famously known as A. Galak, and the 'Anugerah Khas Karyawan' was given to Indra Che Muda.

With the theme 'EMAS - Evolusi Sinema Malaysia', FFM33 was organised by Finas with the support of the Communications Ministry and was broadcast live on TV2 and the Finas YouTube channel. – BERNAMA
