KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry is expected to announce the results of the probe by the independent committee to investigate the death of a specialist doctor at Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah, as early as next month.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the ministry had set three months for the investigation, but if the findings could be provided earlier, they would not wait until January.
"If it's ready earlier, we will hold a press conference to provide the details of the investigation. As this independent committee is not under the ministry, we cannot pressure them to expedite the investigation," he said after officiating the International Medical Devices Exhibition and Conference (IMDEC) 2024 here today.
On Aug 29, Dr Tay Tien Yaa was found dead at her residence in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
Her family later claimed she had been mistreated and forced to work long hours. This, they said, contributed to her decision to end her own life.
This was revealed by the victim's sibling, identified as YS Tay, who claimed that her sister had been oppressed by her superior and faced immense pressure throughout her service in her unit due to excessive workload.
On Sept 16, Dr Dzulkefly called for a thorough investigation into Dr Tay's death.
He had said he did not tolerate any form of workplace bullying and that all staff at the ministry deserve a safe and just working environment.
