SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government is probing a case involving a hospital accused of keeping a deceased baby in a morgue for two weeks due to the parents' inability to settle a bill, as highlighted in a viral incident yesterday.
Selangor Standing Committee on Women and Family Development Anfaal Saari said she would liaise with the relevant authorities to gather further details regarding the case.
"I will obtain additional information from the police and the Social Welfare Department first.
"Once the details of the case are confirmed, further assistance will be provided (to the baby's family). I will also visit the baby's family." she said when contacted today.
Yesterday, the issue came to light after the founder of an NGO had claimed the baby's remains were prevented from leaving the hospital after the father couldn't afford to pay the bill.
The baby was then placed in the freezer for two weeks until the father settled the amount.
According to the founder, the baby was buried in the Muslim cemetery in Selat Klang on Dec 9.
