Five GOF officers honoured for rejecting RM50,000 bribe during smuggling operation

KUALA LUMPUR: Five officers and personnel from the Southeast Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) received certificates of appreciation from the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The recipients were Assistant Superintendent Mohd Norzahirudin Jufri, Inspector Muhamad Hanif Abd Halim, Sergeant Osmizan Osman, Corporal Mohd Shariffuddin Sulaiman, and Corporal Wan Mohd Abbasi Wan Abdllah @ Wan Mamat.

They were awarded the certificates of appreciation for refusing a bribe of RM50,000 offered by an agent of a migrant smuggling syndicate during Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan operations at Jalan Sri Cemerlang and Jalan Besar, Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, on Dec 9.

The bribe was believed to be an attempt to persuade the police to refrain from arresting the suspects involved.

In the operation conducted by a police team from the Southeast Brigade in collaboration with Battalion 9 PGA, 16 undocumented migrants from Myanmar and three smugglers were successfully detained.

During a ceremony held at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman this afternoon, Razarudin congratulated the officers and personnel involved for upholding the principles of integrity while performing their duties to safeguard the country's borders.

"What they have done (refusing bribes) should serve as an example to their colleagues to avoid falling into dishonourable acts that could tarnish the reputation of PDRM and jeopardise our future," he said.

The recognition also highlights the leadership's commitment to acknowledging officers and personnel who exhibit integrity and resilience in carrying out their duties to protect national security.

Also present at the ceremony were Internal Security and Public Order (general operations force) acting director Datuk Mohamad Suzrin Mohamad Rodhi, and GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid.
