KOTA BARU: Police have handed over a human trafficking agent caught trying to bribe members of the General Operations Force (GOF) of RM50,000, to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the 24-year-old suspect was handed over to state MACC on the Sunday morning.
"This to enable MACC to carry out its probe into the case," he said today.
Meanwhile, Kelantan MACC director Rosli Husain said the commission received the report on the case about 3am on Dec 8.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 17 (b) of MACC Act 2009.
The suspect was caught during a follow up operation codenamed Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan carried out by the Ninth Battalion of the GOF on Saturday.
During the operation, three vehicles were inspected and police detained three local men aged between 27 and 32 believed to be "tekong" as well 16 Myanmar nationals.
Interrogations of one of the local men led to the arrest of the syndicate agent near the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa.
When the agent was taken to Kota Baru police station, he pleaded to be released along with the other locals arrested.
The suspect then tried to hand over RM50,000 cash to the operations commander but was warned to stop.
He attempted to do so again and was arrested for attempted bribery.
Following the success, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain yesterday commended members of the GOF for rejecting a RM50,000 bribe from a human trafficking agent.
The five officers and personnel from the Southeast Brigade of the GOF who received certificates of appreciation were Assistant Superintendent Mohd Norzahirudin Jufri, Inspector Muhamad Hanif Abd Halim, Sergeant Osmizan Osman, Corporal Mohd Shariffuddin Sulaiman, and Corporal Wan Mohd Abbasi Wan Abdllah @ Wan Mamat.
