Flood: Slight increase in number of victims in Terengganu and Pahang

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in Terengganu and Pahang recorded a slight increase this morning, while the situation in Johor and Perak is improving.

In TERENGGANU, heavy rain last night resulted in the evacuation of more people, with a total of 3,951 victims recorded at 12 relief centres (PPS) this morning, from 3,778 people last night.

According to the Terengganu Disaster Management Committee Secretariat (JBPNT), Kemaman district recorded 3,761 evacuees at eight PPS, while in Dungun, there are 190 victims at four PPS.

Meanwhile, the water in Sungai Kemaman at the Rumah Paya Pam Paman, Kemaman, has exceeded the warning level, while Sungai Nerus at Kampung Bukit, Setiu, has risen above the alert level.

In PAHANG, the number of flood victims in the Jerantut district has increased to 40, from 34 last night, and they are at two PPS, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Teh and SK Tebing Tinggi.

In PERAK, the number of flood victims remained at 34 people at the PPS at the Kampung Teluk Kepayang Community Hall, Bota in Perak Tengah since last Dec 2.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) has issued a warning to residents in eight villages within a five-kilometre radius of Sungai Perak, Sungai Kenderong, Sungai Kenering, Sungai Rui and Sungai Air Tawar in Hulu Perak to be on alert with the expected continuous rain over three days until tomorrow.

In JOHOR, the number of flood victims remained at 139, with 54 of them at the PPS at SK Simpang Lima Darat in Tangkak and 85 of them at two PPS in Segamat.

The two PPS in Segamat are at Kampung Batu Badak Community Hall, with 40 people, and Kampung Tasek Community Hall (45 people)

Sungai Muar at two measuring points in Segamat is reported to have risen above the warning level, namely at Kampung Awat, with a reading at 19.72 meters and at Buloh Kasap (8.53 meter). – BERNAMA
