JERANTUT: The Civil Defence Force once again came to the rescue by ferrying 10 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) invigilators to their examination centres here by boat after the main road at Paya Garuk here was cut off by floods today.
The invigilators were scheduled to oversee the oral examination at SMK Padang Piol and SMK Sungai Retang but were unable to reach their destinations after a 110m stretch became impassable due to floods
Jerantut Civil Defence officer Muszaidi Musa said that his personnel deployed a fibreglass boat about 6.50am to help the invigilators along with several others to cross the inundated stretch.
"The invigilators were on duty at SMK Padang Piol and SMK Sungai Retang. Several teachers, students and Health Department staff travelling to Padang Piol, Sungai Retang and Kuala Tahan were also transported across the inundated stretch.
"Continuous heavy rain for three days has caused water from Sungai Pahang nearby to overflow onto the road. The Paya Garuk road was closed to all vehicles after the stretch was under 0.6m of water about 6am yesterday," he said in a statement today.
Muszaidi said the stretch was opened to all vehicles about 10am, after the floodwaters began to display a receding trend following clear skies today.
On Dec 2, Civil Defence boats were deployed to ferry 11 SPM invigilators to their examination centres after the Sungai Kerak bridge near Kuala Tembeling was cut off by floods.
Meanwhile, as of 4pm today, the Welfare Department's Info Bencana portal reported that the Pahang floods has displayed significant improvement with only one male victim remaining at the surau in Kampung Lompat in Temerloh.
