Pantai Cahaya Bulan among 4 dangerous beaches

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Civil Defence has identified four "hotspot" beaches, including the popular Pantai Cahaya Bulan, that have been declared as dangerous for swimming during the monsoon season.

State Civil Defence Force director, Colonel Mohd Adzhar Mujab, said they had placed red flags on these beaches to warn the public from entering the water. Besides Pantai Cahaya Bulan, he said the other three were Tumpat, Bachok and Tok Bali beaches.

"We have set up our towers at these four beaches and placed red flags surrounding the towers. This is to warn swimmers from entering the water due to the current strong and high waves," he added.

He said the red flags had been placed on the beaches since September.

"It will be there until the northeast monsoon ends," he added.

He advised visitors to keep their children close by to avoid any untoward incidents during the monsoon season.

Meanwhile, a visit to Pantai Cahaya Bulan yesterday evening showed many people spent the weekend bringing their children and family to the beach.

They, however, did not enter the water and only sat near the embarkment and snapped pictures of the high waves.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a statement last night, said continuous rain is expected to occur in Kelantan and Terengganu for four days, starting from Monday (Dec 16).

It said that the Hulu Perak district in Perak will also experience similar weather conditions. Pahang, Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin are expected to face continuous rain during the same period.
